Overview
Categories are a way of compartmentalizing content into separate buckets. Let's say that you create a category named "Los Angeles" and a category named "New York". When you then go to your photo section and click on the "add a photo" tab you will be presented with the option of selecting "New York" or "Los Angeles" as a category under which that photo will be filed alongside the (none) option which will not place the photo into a category. If you select a category to file the photo under when you view the photos section of the app on any client device the first screen you will be presented with is a list of categories that are in use by that section along with an "all" option that will display all content whether or not it is filed in a category. This same categorization is allowed throughout different sections of the CMS when you are adding content and will behave in the same way in each of these respective sections of the client app.
Do categories work with any section in the app?
Any section with media can utilize categories. You create them once, and then you can assign any video, photo, audio track, or news feed.
What happens if I delete a category?
If you delete a category, all the content will appear in the root directory. This includes any media or feeds you’ve added. Any subcategories of the deleted category will now reference the parent of the category you deleted as their parent. If you delete any top level categories all subcategories will move to the root level.
How many levels deep can I go?
Up to 3 levels deep. For example: Books > Genres > Authors
How do I create sub categories?
When adding or editing a category, you can assign it as a “child of” another category using the drop down menu under the name field. It is also possible to drag the parent category under another category to make it a child of that parent category.
Is there any way to display multiple content types in one category list?
There is currently no way to do this.
